Abstract
For much of the twentieth century, biology advanced through specialization. Genetics, ecology, physiology, molecular biology, taxonomy, developmental biology, and behaviour evolved into distinct disciplines, each generating remarkable discoveries within its own boundaries. This reductionist approach enabled scientists to uncover the structure of DNA, decipher metabolic pathways, and understand the mechanisms underlying inheritance and disease.
